To the New York Community...

· Are you in pain from the stress of work & life in NYC

· Do your shoulders, back and neck ache on a regular basis?

· Does life Bring You Down and STRESS YOU OUT?

****

I loved the article "Stand UP and Stay Pain Free" published in online newspaper Living Healthy. I highly recommend subscribing to this little gem. I get useful tips from this daily reader that keep me grounded, grateful and ever curious about how to stay connected to my lovely self.

"Stand UP Straight and Stay Pain Free" could be the national slogan for AT. And i guess it kind of is. The freedom found with good posture has great long-term effects on your entire System - mental, physical etc....your Whole Self. When we lose touch with how to move on the vertical, we are often compressing the spine, distorting our muscular system, which leaves us quite twisted in a psychic plain as well. Not fun. Not fun at all.

Alexander Lesson anyone?
Over a century old, this hands-on holistic practice undoes those knots,
reduces stress, heals chronic pain and restores our sense of well-being like nobody's business. By developing our awareness, developing and toning our physical core, and creating conscious patterns of movement in daily activity, pain can be healed. Come take the workshop, awaken a new sense of Self that will restore you to sanity in magical time.

In 90 minutes you will begin to....

- develop core strength needed to truly support yourself structurally,
- release unnecessary tension that causes pain and confusion;
- restore balance, and improve your coordination;
- reduce stress;
- reclaim your Wellness.

Being balanced and fully expressive in a bi-pedal world is not a luxury...it’s our birthright. Learn how to live without pain.

Each time I have a lesson with Wendy it takes me by sweet surprise. Something opens in my body--and my heart--that wasn't expected. Her hands hold a tender power that allows a release of tension and a larger breathing of the body. Wendy has imbued in me a desire to practice in which discipline is accompanied by delight. When I walk into an audition, the accessing of this skill is a feeling of ease that is priceless.

On July 25th Reduce Tension with The Alexander Technique.

Hi Everyone! After a couple of months off, I am now back to offering monthly demonstrations of this wonderful stress-reduction technique. If you are new to Alexander's work or interested in reconnecting to it, this 90 minute demonstration is a great way to experience hands-on work, meet me and make some new friends. Not too shabby for an hour and a half!

About Alexander Technique

Alexander's work is a comprehensive education, a holistic wake up call or a sensory re-education, if you will, that teaches us how to let our muscular system work at the appropriate speed and volume. With instructive touch and verbal cues, the Alexander teacher gives the student guidelines on how to reduce tension that is being unconsciously held throughout the body. When we let go of such muscular dis-ease, our sensory appreciation improves and we develop a greater ability to prevent that tension from creeping in again and "disturbing the works." In lessons, some muscles get stronger while others get softer, and the good ol' computer bank (um, your BRAIN) gets a reboot that leaves us feeling calm and empowered.

This tactile wake up call to stress is unusual and highly effective. One leaves lessons feeling happier, rejuvenated and much less stressed out. Alive and relaxed, we move better, breathe easier and feel happier all around. That is a promise. The magic of being upright is not a luxury...it's your birthright. I hope you will join me at the demo.

Benefits: Better Breath Support, Better Posture, a Healthier Muscular System, A Stronger Back and Spine, Healthier Joints. And so much more. Oh, and a Quieter Mind.

What: A Demonstration of the Alexander Technique

Where: 330 West 38th Street, Suite 805

When: Wednesday, July 25. 6:30-8pm

"Fear in the body interferes with charisma. Alexander helps the actor release it. Ease of movement and a freer voice are side benefits, to my point of view. Job One is living in the present by letting go of defensive gripping in the body. I continue to take Alexander lessons from Wendy because I can feel my natural power when my muscles let go of chronic alarm."

The Alexander Technique and The Power in Being Vulnerable

Hi Folks,

So I'm going up to Barnard College this weekend for a cool conference entitled Vulnerability: The Human and the Humanities". Academics and political activists will be gathering about the campus watering hole for an all day workshop on the Passion of Being Vulnerable - the ultimate life force energy. Isn't it? Seriously. We might be hiding out, over-muscled, not really breathing, puffed up or collapsed down, texting ourselves into oblivion (my pet peeve), putting on a performance of some kind - playing tough or running scared. Fear. Anxiety. Shame. And our feelings about it all...just drill us into the ground. Because who the hell wants to stand up and be? to be that open? That exposed? Isn't that just terrifying? Here's the dictionary's definition of "vulnerable"...

a. Susceptible to physical or emotional injury.
b. Susceptible to attack: "We are vulnerable both by water and land, without either fleet or army" (Alexander Hamilton).
c. Open to censure or criticism; assailable.

And its synonyms don't give me much comfort either: DANGER, DISADVANTAGE, INDEBTEDNESS, PRECARIOUSNESS, PREDICAMENT, RISK.

Ugh. WHere is the wonder in that I wonder? My neck is stiff as a board right now.

Let's flip it...

Vulnerability: "THe state of being that defines our humanity, that allows us to fearlessly capture our life force energy without restriction of any kind, a condition that leaves us open, grounded all at once, deeply connected to our own selves, as well as being the unconditional link to all human beings."

Nicer, yes? Okay. After years of practicing The Alexander Technique, first as student and now as teacher, I can honestly say...my game of vulnerability has profoundly morphed. I allow this experience to be the seed to pretty much every other one...at least that's my hope. Because that's when I am my most open..empowered...comfortably and quietly myself.

Go watch a favorite performance, play with a baby...hang out with someone who isn't doing that great...i assure you...vulnerability is talking loud. And you kind of love it, yes?

So...if you would like to hear more about how productive, empowering and life-affirming living with a greater sense of being vulnerable can be...please come to my demo on Sunday. We'll laugh and cry about it ALL...promise.

Hi Everyone. These monthly demonstrations continue to be a fun (and cheap) way for me to introduce myself, offer a bit of hands-on work and discuss the benefits of this wonderful stress-reduction technique. At this demo, the question on the table will be "So, what does being present mean, exactly?" Whether on stage, or off, we recognize the charisma of poise, the empowered presence of someone living life without too much stress or hassle? That person who just doesn't seem to let the external stressors grip them or shake them up too much? Ideally still, some of you may have recognized such sweet moments for yourself. I hope so. And if so, rock on, keep doing what you're doing. The rest of you ...keep reading!

The Alexander Technique is a wake up call, a sensory re-education that teaches us how to let our muscular system work at the appropriate speed and volume. With instructive touch and verbal cues, the Alexander teacher gives the student some guidelines on how to reduce tension that is being unconsciously held throughout the body. Until next time...hope you're all having a sweet sort of day. It's your day after all. So why not take just a sec and notice where you are in space? Are you pulling up? Falling down? Squeezing, holding and making yourself tense all around?

You have brains in your head.
You have feet in your shoes.
You can steer yourself in any direction you choose.
You're on your own.
